The manager

The fund is managed by Ingenious Infrastructure, a trading division of Ingenious Capital Management Limited ("Ingenious").

Ingenious was launched in 1998. To date, it has raised and deployed over £9 billion, invested across a range of investment strategies in media, infrastructure, real estate and education.

Ingenious Infrastructure launched in 2011. Since then, it has deployed over £720 million of investment capital into the infrastructure sector across the UK, Republic of Ireland and Australia, including over £150 million provided through nine infrastructure-focused EIS services.

The Infrastructure EIS is led by Guy Ranawake, a chartered accountant with significant experience within the utilities and infrastructure sector.

Investment strategy

Ingenious Infrastructure Ventures EIS aims to invest into a portfolio of of five to eight companies that operate in, or provide services to, the infrastructure sector, including energy, transport, digital and resource efficiency.

Examples of infrastructure projects into which the fund will invest include energy management, electric vehicle charging stations, broadband internet access and agricultural equipment. It is a growth EIS, however, the companies in which it invests are asset rich, as they own the infrastructure.

Ingenious has an existing relationship with the firms in which it seeks to invest, thanks to established business relationships from previous EIS investments.

Target return

The fund targets a return of 2x after four to six years. Please note, returns and timeframes are not guaranteed.

Exit strategy

The manager has extensive experience in realising investments in infrastructure companies, although past performance is not a guide to the future.

Given the nature of the investment, the investment horizon is likely to be four to six years, however this will depend, in part, on each investee company’s ability to scale its business and become attractive to new investors. Exit route options include an acquisition by another company, a management buy-out, or a listing of the investee company – not guaranteed.

Risks – important

This, like all investments available through Wealth Club, is only for experienced investors happy to make their own investment decisions without advice.

EIS / SEIS investments are high-risk so should only form part of a balanced portfolio and you should not invest money you cannot afford to lose. They also tend to be illiquid and hard to sell and value. Before you invest, please carefully read the Risks and Commitments and the offer documents to ensure you fully understand the risks.

Tax rules can change and benefits depend on circumstances.

This EIS / SEIS fund invests in early-stage businesses which are more likely to fail than larger ones. So you should expect a number of failures in the portfolio.
